James Blackwood

James grew up in small-town Alberta but has lived on Vancouver Island since 2015. Before entering the legal profession, he worked in the local service industry, including at ABC Country Restaurant and the Black Bear Pub, experiences that shaped his practical, grounded approach to working with people.

James began his post-secondary studies at Vancouver Island University in 2019, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies and Philosophy in 2021. He then entered the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia in 2022 and completed his law degree in 2024. During law school, he volunteered and worked in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, both as a legal clinician with the PACE Society and as a Temporary Articling Student with the Indigenous Community Legal Clinic.

James practises family law, estate litigation, and general civil litigation. He takes a warm, practical approach to his work and believes clients should feel at ease speaking with their lawyer, asking questions, and understanding their options at every stage of a matter

Outside the office, James enjoys spending time outdoors, including skiing, boating, and hiking. He also plays piano and enjoys making music with others.
